Labour left us with no choice
Under the heading "Mayor has done government's dirty work" (The Post January 28) Tom Baldwin representing Trade Unionists and Socialist Against Cuts has blamed George Ferguson for following the government's policy of austerity measures.
He fails to say that Labour, who placed us in this position would also have an austerity programme. Albeit, they say, not so drastic, but we know Labour from old.
Neil Maggs of the Respect Party, under the same headline, suggests the mayor should visit Athens to see how austerity is working there.
Greece, of course, had no alternative but to carry out their cuts, having been instructed to in order to receive a bail out from the EU and the IMF. if they had not, they would have been bankrupt.

There was so much corruption and tax avoidance in Greece that, in afterthought, Messrs Baldwin and Maggs probably prefer that kind of government to ours.
