Hannah Barwood had hoped to be selected for the Vagliano Trophy team following her brilliant performance in reaching the quarter-finals of the British Women's Championship.

But the 18-year-old Knowle player, who is now in Ireland making her Ladies European Tour debut, has to be content with a non-travelling reserve berth for the Great Britain and Ireland team to take on Europe in Hamburg next month.

Sam Morgan (Bristol and Clifton) and Sam Payne (Shirehampton) gained decisive 5/3 and 6/4 singles wins and Tyler Hogarty (Rodway Hill) won by one hole as Gloucestershire lost a junior match 8-4 to Surrey at Burhill. EGU champions Surrey looked unbeatable after winning all four foursomes.

Mendip's former Somerset county champion George Morgan set a new record six-under-par 65 but only finished second in the Sims Cup, a handicap competition.

George Ryall (Players Club) was the only local player to make the cut in the Glenmuir Club Professional Championship at rain-ravaged Dundonald Links in Scotland. He finished joint 23rd on 20-over-par 308, winning £696.

Paul Barrington (Players), Andrew Sherborne (Kendleshire), John Goymer (Wheathill), Giuseppe Licata (Hambrook) and Kevin Pitts (Woodspring) failed to stay for the final day.

Bristol & Clifton won the Gloucestershire bronze team championship against Long Ashton at the Forest of Dean.
