A Bristol bookmaker was robbed by a knife-wielding man.

The suspect entered the shop in Ashley Down Road, Horfield, at about 4pm on Friday and threatened staff, who were forced to hand over cash from the tills.

The suspect was carrying what appeared to be a black-handled carving knife, about 9in long.

He was black, aged 20 to 25 years old, about 6ft 2in tall and slim. He was wearing a black North Face jacket, with the hood pulled over a baseball cap, which had a yellow peak with a circular green badge or logo about the size of a 50p piece.

The robber was also thought to be wearing what appeared to be a black and white scarf or bandana pulled up over his face. He had black tracksuit bottoms on with a small white motif on the left thigh and black Nike trainers.

Avon and Somerset police spokesman Wayne Baker said: "Police believe that it is possible the same man may have approached the Filton Avenue branch of the same bookmaker a few minutes earlier but did not go through the doorway.

"It is believed that he got into a black car – possibly a Kia Carens – which drove off down Sandling Avenue."

Witnesses should call Bristol CID on 0845 4567000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
