Kite sports festival at Weston
Wind sports fanatics will take to Weston-super-Mare beach this weekend to compete in a new event.
Blown Away is being organised by Wind and Wheels in partnership with North Somerset Council.
It will see participants take to the sand, sea and air this weekend.
Dominic Early, one of the festival organisers, said: "Kiting has always been popular in Weston with the south west breezes on the beach.
"It has become a very popular pastime and tourists are now coming here for the new activities like kite surfing and buggying.
"With that in mind the local club, Wind and Wheels, has got together with North Somerset Council to bring the event to Weston."
AKF, formerly Avon Kite Flyers, will have an arena to demonstrate the pleasure of kite flying and promote their long-standing club.
Sport Team And Competitive Kiting (STACK) will be hosting the first round of the national stunt kite championship in an arena alongside AKF.
It hopes to complete 10 hours of competition over the weekend including individual and pairs, teams flying dual-line and quad-line kites in both precision and ballet routines.
At the event the British Kite Surfing Association is running a charity kitesurf and landboard competition featuring teams of two in fancy dress costumes.
Prizes will be awarded for disciplines such as highest jump, synchronised jumping and best fancy dress.
In addition the British Land Speedsail Association (BLSA) is hosting the first round of the national Blokart (mini land yachts) championships.
