A STREET party in Kingsdown raised £8,000 for Bristol Children's Hospital.

Party on the hill was held in August and the proceeds were handed over to the hospital in Upper Maudlin Street yesterday.

Bristol City players Louis Carey and Jamie McCombe attended the cheque presentation in order to show their support for the hospital. Party on the hill was organised by Kingsdown residents Nick Cornell and Brad Francis, who is the owner of the Highbury Vaults.

Mr Cornell, 62, retired, said: "We closed the street off for the party in August.

"It started off as a race event and we've always done it for the charity.

"We gave the money to the doctors, separate to the Wallace and Gromit appeal."

He added: "It will go towards equipment, last year they spent it on nebulisers."
