King crowned after narrow win at Hanham
Peter King and Jason Hamblin were separated by a single mark at the end of the North Somerset club's hour-long timed and observation trial at Hanham Mills, inside the City of Bristol boundary, yesterday.
King lost three marks on observation in the eight-lap event, while Hamblin lost four marks on time.
Third-placed Steve Davey also finished without penalty on observation but he incurred a nine-mark time debit.
Tom Smith was third best on observation in the Enduro class, but his faster time gave him the edge over his close rivals Andy Scrivens and Julian Rigby.
Colin Philpott and Stuart Dance, and Natalie Kane, both netted double wins in the British Clubman's Sidecar and Ladies championship in the Frome club's motocross at Leighton, in Mid Somerset.
Philpott and Dance led both seven-lap races from start to finish. Nick Bowers and Paul Young put them under pressure in the first race, and the Berkshire pair were given a hard time in the second race by Karl Jarvis and Ben Peters.
Kane was a clear winner of both ladies' events on a hard and dusty circuit but she was headed in the first race for a lap by Stacey Fisher, who eventually finished fifth.
Kerry Hind, from Felixstowe, crashed heavily shortly after the start of the second race and, after receiving trackside attention from paramedics, she was airlifted to a local hospital with suspected neck injuries.
British champion Paul Windrow led the first 13-lap Quadracer race for five laps before being relegated by French champion Mattieu Ternynck, but he was back in front four laps later and, shortly after, Ternynck lost second place to the fast-finishing Paul Holmes. Winrow looked all set to win the second race after storming into the lead but, on the third lap, he was passed by Holmes and Jason Macbeth.
In spite of the poor visibility, all three hurtled around the Asham Woods circuit at an alarming pace and at the finish they were just seconds apart.
