A MAJOR new store is to open in Bristol within the next couple of months, The Post can reveal.

The Kiddicare brand is opening at Cribbs Causeway and the new arrival is expected to lead to the creation of more than 50 much-needed retail jobs.

The High Street has taken a battering in recent months with the collapse of a series of high-profile names including Comet and camera firm Jessops, with HMV also in administration.

All three stores had, and in HMV's case still have, a presence in the Bristol area and more than 100 jobs have been lost in the retail sector.

The new store is opening on the site which was previously occupied by the American-owned electronics retailer Best Buy. Best Buy was an ambitious attempt to take on the established brands but the UK arm of the firm collapsed after just 12 months.

Kiddicare was reluctant to talk about its plans but confirmed it was opening its 40,000 square foot superstore in late spring or early summer.

The new Cribbs Causeway operation will be the eighth new superstore to open on former Best Buy sites.

Supermarket chain Morrisons is the parent company of Kiddicare and the firm bought up the Best Buy sites when the company collapsed in early 2012.

It has already started recruiting staff to work in the new store.

A spokesperson for the company said: "There will be over 4,000 lines of parent-to-be, baby and toddler kit in store – in fact everything you need for your family under one roof.

"To make the shopping experience easy, happy and above all fun, Kiddicare Cribbs Causeway will offer a whole host of family-friendly features."

The features include a "Walk in the Park" buggy test track and a free dedicated event room for customers and the community.

There will also be a children's play area along with free and fast customer WiFi.

The store will also have a touch-screen browse and order points.

Along with that there will be an area where parents can feed their young wins in a private and peaceful environment and a large family cafe.

Kiddicare was launched to take on the other major retailers in the market such as Mothercare.

Originally the business concentrated on the internet market but has started opening superstores in the last 18 months.

Mothercare has struggled in recent years and Kiddicare has gone for an approach aimed at cash strapped parents.

Morrisons bought Kiddicare just over three years ago in a deal estimated to be worth more than £70 million and has since grown from strength to strength.

It is looking to further expand over the next 12 months.
