Keynsham snooker ace Judd Trump is closing in on qualification for this year's Sky Sports Premier League.

The provisional world No 30 turned on the style this week to win the final qualifying group of the popular Championship League Snooker at the Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex.

After that impressive showing, Trump is through to the final winners' group, where seven top professionals will be vying for one Premier League spot.

The winner will join the likes of world No 1 and world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan in the elite competition.

The winners' group is made up of the seven players who won their qualifying groups, including 19-year-old Trump.

Speaking after securing his place in the winners' group, Trump said: "I had a terrible start but then I settled down, played well and made some nice breaks.

"It's a strong line-up in the winners' group, but they're just names at the end of the day and I'll just be playing the table.

"I've got as good a chance as anyone to qualify, hopefully I can keep my form going."

A 4-0 loss to six-time Crucible winner Steve Davis in his opening group match left Trump with plenty to do, but the teenager responded in fine fashion, beating former world champion Graeme Dott, Joe Swail, Chinese cueman Liang Wenbo, Ricky Walden and Matthew Stevens, all by a 3-1 scoreline.

Having finished top of his qualifying group with £1,500 of prize money, Trump then beat Glaswegian Dott 3-0 in the semi-finals before clinching a 3-2 victory over Walden in this year's showcase final.

Trump's opponents in the winners' group are two-time world champ John Higgins, Mark King, Mark Allen, Joe Perry, Stuart Bingham and former Masters winner Mark Selby.
