Keynsham still seeking first win
KEYNSHAM are still looking for their first win of the season after losing 36-13 to Chosen Hill.
The newcomers from Somerset Premier are finding life back in Western Counties North tough, with their only points so far coming from a 10-10 draw against Thornbury last month.
Against Chosen Hill, No 8 Jack Weston and wing Chris Eames touched down for Keynsham, with fly-half Paul Edson kicking a penalty.
Thornbury drew for the second time this season when an outstanding defensive performance secured an 8-8 stalemate at Stroud.
Although the home side dominated possession, they adopted a forward-orientated approach, which the Thornbury defence snuffed out.
Stroud opened the scoring through a try by Rob Higgins. Simon Weaver replied with a penalty and two minutes later Thornbury scored a fine try, forwards and backs combining for Mike Sander to touch down.
Thornbury led 8-5 until the middle of the second half, when Stroud centre Ian Bushell kicked a penalty to tie the scores.
North Bristol lost 35-17 at Widden, gifting their hosts three converted breakaway tries.
Widden were 21-3 ahead at half-time, fly-half Martin Lambourne kicking a penalty for the Almondsbury-based side.
Widden took advantage of two more North mistakes to go 35-3 up before the visitors scored two late tries from wing Martin Harrex, Lambourne converting both.
Old Redcliffians are up to fourth after winning 29-0 at home to Berry Hill thanks to tries from second row Dave Jones, flanker Mike Robinson, wing Dafydd Evans and full-back Craig Owen. Fly-half Matt Manuel kicked three conversions and a drop goal.
Former Bristol flanker Luke Harris took four Gordon League tacklers over the line with him when clinching Barton Hill's 5-0 victory. Harris powered to the line just after the break but Barts did well not to concede a try after defending for the final 30 minutes.
Hornets won 19-17 against Devonport Services to increase their total in Western Counties West to minus five points. The Weston-based club were deducted nine points for their poor disciplinary record over the past 12 months.
Centre Ian Marshall, fly-half Sam Lloyd-Jones and wing John Ferguson touched down, with Marshall adding one conversion. Hornets missed two conversions and three penalties.
Dings Crusaders have gone top of the West of England Merit Table after beating Cinderford 46-12.
Their tries were scored by Ben Chase, brothers Gareth and Josh Lloyd, Josh Sampson, Mike Trench and Dan Quartley (2), who also landed four conversions and a penalty.
