Kawasaki's new 2009 Ninja 250R has cemented itself at the top of the entry level Sportbike sector and for good reason too.

It offers Supersport styling with real world comfort and is a bike that is ideally suited to either role of a weekend fun machine or for the grind of the daily commute. Its stunningly good looks and impressive performance belie the fact that this machine has an on the road price of less than £4,000.

The first positive impression of the Ninja 250R is its nimble handling. It really exudes personality and its low price tag highlights just what fantastic value this Kawasaki's Sportbike really is. Its class leading performance is enhanced by its UNI-TRAK rear suspension, petal disc brakes and petrol-sipping twin-cylinder engine.

Kawasaki has come up with a winning formula with this lightweight Ninja 250R. The secret of its success is its ability to transcend skill levels and appeal to all riders from novice to seasoned veteran.

At the core of the Ninja 250R is an engine that thrives on high-rpm excitement. The gutsy 249cc parallel twin is tuned for a frisky, yet smooth and predictable power delivery. The beginner friendly low and mid-range torque comes courtesy of its dual overhead camshafts and 2-into-1 exhaust system. A silky smooth six-speed transmission lets riders exploit the 250R's power-band without fanfare from a low-end grunt to a crowd pleasing and lively top-end rush. Last, but not least and what makes this diminutive Ninja so appealing is its excellent fuel economy.

The Ninja 250R is wrapped in a fairing and windscreen that not only looks great but delivers wind protection for a wide range of riding situations. Tucked in behind the windscreen are more rider-friendly features such as an easy-to-read instrument panel and neutral indicator.

Stopping power is provided by a large-diameter, 290mm front petal disc and a balanced action two-piston calliper. The rear 220mm petal disc is gripped by another two-piston calliper. The system works very well indeed providing excellent feel, pulling the Ninja up nice and squarely. Even if you leave breaking a little late the bike remains resolutely stable.

The new 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250R is one excellent Sportbike machine. It can hardly be seen as a surprise then that the latest Ninja 250R is the leading bike in its sector.
