Bieber was helped backstage where he was given oxygen by a doctor who advised him to go straight to hospital. A spokeswoman for the singer told The Associated Press late last night he fainted backstage.

Despite this the teen superstar returned to the stage after a 20-minute break and finished the last four songs of his Believe show.

While fans eagerly awaited news, Bieber's manager Scooter Braun told the audience: “Justin got very light of breath, the whole show he's been complaining. He's backstage with the EMTs (emergency medical team) and the doctor.

“They're telling him they want him to go and see somebody and find out what's going on with his lungs, he's just told me that in five minutes, if it's OK with you guys, he's going to come out and finish the show.

“So he might not be jumping around as much and everything else, you guys need to be patient with us, we're not trying to be disrespectful, we're not trying to get you guys home late, we're truly trying to put on a show for the people who love him.”

Bieber later received treatment at a London hospital where he posted a picture on Instagram on himself in his hospital bed.

The singer also sent out a message to his 35 million followers:

Despite his faint Bieber is due to round off his stint at the O2 tonight, in a concert which gets underway at 6.30pm. This morning the O2 tweeted:

The London leg of Bieber’s tour has been eventful. He came under fire on Monday after showing up on stage nearly two hours late, forcing many young fans to miss the school night show.
