THE announcement of extended sanctions by the European Union against Iran emphasises the danger of war. The experience of Iraq tells us that sanctions aren't an alternative to war but a preparation for it. The sanctions imposed already have severely affected the Iranian people. If western countries were serious about stopping nuclear weapons in the Middle East then they would be calling on Israel to give up their nuclear armoury. The threats to Iran are really to do with the USA, Britain and others wanting to extend their influence in the region
