Just where is the compassion?

IN reply to Dr Jon Rogers letter (The Post October 18), both my husband and I are saddened by his apparent failure of memory. He met us both with our daughter, Jane, at Lanercost Road Day Centre for people with learning difficulties at two meetings. At the second meeting I asked him if he had ever been to Shirelink Day Centre and seen how lovely the staff are and the good work which is going on there. He had not been and neither has any other councillor. He went and made a very brief visit after the meeting. He spoke for a few minutes to the manager. He didn't ask the staff what they thought about the proposed changes. He did not speak to any service users. He has never met us at Shirelink. He has never met us at Lockleaze Day centre because this is a Day Centre for the elderly and our daughter attends Shirelink. He has never been to a meeting there, neither has Alison Comley the Director of Health and Social Care. The staff have never had an opportunity to give an opinion. Dr Rogers says "We have wonderful staff and we can continue to provide a world class service." The staff already in place give us the service we parents and carers want. They have been offered voluntary redundancy. Where the wonderful staff and the world class service they are going to provide is coming from I have no idea.

Glenise Morgan, who took over the mess which the Health and Social Care team left led by Dr Rogers, has continued in the same manner. Where is the compassion and understanding she is supposed to have. I have yet to know. She has never visited Shirelink and the staff have never heard of her. She has not spoken to any service users or carers so none of us know how she proposes to proceed. The changes next year will save money which will be spent on causing yet more waste on our chaotic road system and heart ache to our elderly and people with learning difficulties.
