THERE is a strong short-list for the Easy Runner/adidas February athlete of the month competition in conjunction with the Bristol Post with some outstanding performances from our local athletes.

Blaise Castle hosted the South West Schools' Cross Country' Championships and the Avon youngsters certainly rose to the occasion and feature prominently in the list.

ELLIOTT PRENDERGAST: The 17-year-old B&W printer did well to make the final of the under-20 men's 60m at the England Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham after posting a personal best of 6.98secs in the semi-finals having broken seven seconds in his career with 6.99secs for the first time in the heats. Also finished fifth in the Midland Championships with 7.08secs and was sixth in the Welsh Championships.

ANICIA SKEATES: February was a big PB month for the 15-year-old sprinter. She raced to a PB of 9.17secs in the semi-finals of the under-17 women's 60m hurdles at the England Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Also clocked a PB of 7.98secs in the semi finasl of the 60m, her first time under eight seconds. In the Midland Champs was fifth in the 60m (8.06) and fourth in the 200m (26.19), having clocked a PB of 25.82secs in the heats.

HUGH SADLER: The 13-year-old had one of his best runs of the winter to finish ninth in the junior boys' race at the South West Schools' Cross Country Championships at Blaise Castle and lead Avon to the team silver medals. He followed that up the week after with third place in the Gwent League at Bath.

HARRIET EMERY: The North Somerset AC rookie won a superb bronze medal in the South West Schools' Cross Country Championships at Blaise Castle and led the Avon minor girls' to team gold.

AIDEN NOBLE: The 12-year-old Grange School youngster won a silver medal in the minor boys' race in the South West Schools' Cross Country Championships at Blaise Castle.

ROSIE ALLEN: As a bottom year junior girl enjoyed a terrific run to finish second Avon scorer behind Ellie Leather and play a key role in the county's gold medal team success in the South West Schools' Cross Country Championships at Blaise Castle.

The week after the Westbury Harrier was 16th in the Gwent League and then on successive weekends was top youngster in the Little Stoke parkrun 5k events, running a PB of 19mins 47secs .

DAVD WARNES: The 13-year-old North Somerset AC youngster opened the month with a solid 11th place in the junior boys' race of the South West Schools' – easily eclipsing his 22nd in the same age group last year – and then went on to finish sixth in the penultimate Gwent League fixture.

CHRIS STONE: Competing in Birmingham at the Midland Counties Indoor Championships Bristol & West AC's 17-year-old rising star Chris Stone ran new club records and personal bests in the under 20 men 200m (21.76secs) and 400m (49.11secs) launching him into the top ten in the UK Rankings. Then at the England Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham Stone won bronze in the under-20 men's 200m final and in the process broke his club record again with a best of 21.73secs.

ELLIE HOBBS: The Westbury Harrier ran away with the novice girls' at the penultimate Gwent Cross Country League fixture with a stunning display of front running to strengthen her overall lead in the competition. Is also a regular in the Little Stoke parkrun 5k races setting a PB f 20mins 01secs in the final race of February.

ALICE DAVIES: Representing Somerset, Davies finished just outside the medals in fourth in the junior girls' race at the South West Schools' Championships. Completed a good week by securing the runner-up spot in the under-13 girls' race in the penultimate Gwent League match.
