Jordan goal crowns Whitchurch's revival
Hanham Minor League Under-11s: Whitchurch B Under-11s came from 2-0 down to beat third-placed Oldland Abbotonians 3-2 in a thrilling top-of-the-table Division C clash.
Charlie Millard and James Denyer fired Oldland into half-time lead but Whitchurch took command after the break.
Ryan Jacobs latched on to Sam Franklin's goal-kick to pull a goal back before Kyle Slocombe struck the equaliser from the penalty spot after Louis Bellaera's cross was handled.
It was left to man-of-the-match Jordan Sargent to run through and fire Whitchurch's winner and ensure them joint-top status with Broadwalk, who won 5-0 at Bradley Stoke thanks to goals from Jack Mundy (2), Kieran Bray, Connor Griffin and Kevin Pearce.
Max Poole, John Attwood and Connor Poole scored their first goals of the season as Fishponds beat Highridge United 5-2 in another Division C match.
Sharmarke Abdi and Callum Slade were also on target for Fishponds, while keeper Elijah Morgan turned in a fine display.
Thornbury Falcons are within touching distance of the Division D title after crushing Hanham Athletic B 7-0. Kieron Bancroft cracked a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Jordan Saxton (2), Asher Budd and Philip Twin.
Division A leaders AEK Boco collected another three points with a 4-2 win over Bristol City JSC.
A fine cross by Georgina Lacey picked out Jack Robson to fire home their opener. Boco's defence stood up well to City's determined response, with Luke Withey performing solidly as they held on to that slender advantage going into the break.
And they began the second half incisively too, with Robson scoring again following a splendid pass by strike partner Jack Green.
City showed strength and determination by replying with a free-kick from the just outside the box, but strikes from Alex Whale and Josh Kellet-Butt put the game beyond doubt for Boco, although City pulled a second goal back with another well-executed free-kick.
Second-placed Bitton, who had drawn their previous two games, put their championship bid back on track again with a 2-0 win against Avon Athletic.
Two cracking goals from Christian Box did the damage, the first coming courtesy of a super Jak Griffiths pass and first-time shot that left the Avon keeper with no chance.
Box's second, a fierce effort from the edge of the box, followed good work by Jordan Cribb and Seli Prenci.
Avon battled well but Bitton's three-man defence of Matt Brown, Sol Butler and Callum Ball, and keeper Charlie Cains, did well to preserve another clean sheet.
Nicholas Wanderers broke their losing sequence with a 3-1 win over Mangotsfield United A.
Ollie Peters opened the scoring with a shot from near the halfway line into the top left corner of the net. Good work at the back by Josh Cummins, Leon Smith and keeper Joe Woodruff kept Field at bay before they equalised on the stroke of half-time.
The second half saw Wanderers grow in confidence, with Marcus Knapp and Callum Moon enjoying excellent games. Del Cunningham drove them in front with a thunderous shot and Nick Gallagher grabbed a third.
Warmley Rangers fought back after conceding an early goal to pip St Vallier 2-1 in another Division A clash. Joe Markovitch pulled off two fine save to ensure Warmley did not fall further behind before the break.
The turnaround started 20 minutes into the second half when Fraser Venables equalised from the penalty spot. And, three minutes later, Venables struck again to complete a dramatic win.
Yate Rangers bounced back from a midweek defeat by Bristol Rovers JFC to post a crucial 2-1 Division B victory over a good Whitchurch team.
Whitchurch took the lead when a high ball into the box fell to striker Kyler Phillips, who just beat keeper Bessel to the ball.
Yate hit back strongly and scored just before half-time through defender Matty Isles following a corner.
Yate asserted more control in the second half and skipper Joe Wood, who had switched to the wing, set up Dan Burton to fire home their winner.
Yate continued to press with Wood twice trying his luck from long range and Callum Martin missing from the penalty spot.
At the other end, Bessel made a great save to clinch three points for Yate.
Ashton Boys A had to dig deep to clinch a 2-1 victory over a Lawrence Weston side whose performance belied their position in Division B.
Visitors Ashton took the lead through Ryan-Lee Williams early in the first half, but his team failed to capitalise on their wealth of possession after that and Lawrence Weston took full advantage by equalising during a goalmouth scramble. Ashton weathered the storm and Dan Crouch popped up with a late strike to win the game for them.
