A flooded Cary Valley can be a pretty sight to anyone except fishermen, but Viaduct Fishery's Campbell Match Lake came up with a surprisingly good result for the Carpenters Arms 2,000 lads, despite it bordering swamped fields.

The winner by a long way was Rich Jones with a 17- carp catch totalling 95-6-0 taken from peg 110 on the Cary Lake causeway, with straight lead and hair-rigged meat.

Chris Bland came second at 131 on the left bank with 66-10-0. He fished the same tactics as the winner and took the biggest part of an 11-carp catch during the last 90 minutes of the six-hour match.

Secretary Phil Terry topped the silverfish list with 8-4-0 of perch taken at distance off corner peg 123 with straight lead and maggot.

Result – Overall: 1, Rich Jones 95-6-0, peg 110; 2, Chris Bland 66-10-0, peg 131; 3, Rob Mills 34-10-0, peg 115; 4, Paul Hurn 32-14-0, mpeg 125; 5, Paul Foxhall 31-12-0, peg 132; 6, Phil Terry 29-1-0, peg 123. Silverfish: Phil Terry, 8-4-0, peg 123.
