Police and the city council's Green team will be out in Kingsdown on Monday (may 11) clearing the streets of litter.

Local residents suggested the clean up at a recent PACT (partners and communities together) meeting.

PACT meetings give residents the chance to discuss issues of concern with local police officers, city council representatives and people from other agencies.

Sergeant Mark Alderton said: "The clean-up day is a good example of the PACT process working well.

"Clearing the area of litter and debris can help prevent the potential for crime and reduce the chances of injury to children."

Denise James, Clean & Green Project Officer, said: "PACT meetings are a chance for local people to tell us what they are concerned about and what they feel will benefit their local community.

"This was a major priority identified by local residents and we are asking as many as possible to join in and make a difference to their local environment."

Clean up equipment such as litter picks and gloves will be provided.

People doing community service on the Community Payback scheme, will also be in the area clearing undergrowth, litter picking, and general tidying as well as painting benches in the community gardens at Freemantle House and Caroline House in the Kingsdown area.

Assistant Chief Officer at Avon & Somerset Probation Area, Martin Davies said: "We strive to listen to local communities regarding any suggestions they may have for new sites that are in need of tidying up by our Community Payback groups.

"Community Payback is an opportunity for offenders to give something back to society in a constructive way."

Community Payback site suggestions can be made by going to the website www.avonandsomersetprobation.org.uk
