John makes a splash to thank guide dog charity
A MAN who thought his life was over after losing his sight is swimming ten miles to raise money for the charity which helped transform his world.
John Tovey of Almondsbury, lost his vision two years ago due to a condition called diabetic retinopathy. The 44-year-old became a recluse who could not bear to get out of bed.
But shortly before Christmas last year guide dog Dez changed his life.
To express his thanks, Mr Tovey is raising money for the charity. He is swimming a mile every day for ten days at Thornbury Leisure Centre and will hold a party with the fundraising team to commemorate his achievement on May 31.
