John Ward set to become new Bristol Rovers boss
John Ward has emerged as a hot favourite to become Bristol Rovers' new manager.
Having sacked Mark McGhee at the weekend, the Pirates have called a 4pm press conference for today at the Memorial Stadium.
And Ward, who spent a spell in charge at Rovers during the mid-1990s, is expected to be unveiled as McGhee's successor.
Out of work since being sacked by League One Colchester United earlier this season, Ward last week verbally agreed a deal to become director of football at Plymouth Argyle.

His appointment was due to be formally announced at Home Park today, but Ward failed to appear in Devon after telling Argyle officials he had undergone a change of heart.
He was instead understood to be travelling from his home in the Midlands to Bristol to conclude a deal with Rovers after being offered the chance to succeed McGhee over the weekend.
An outsider with bookmakers last night, Ward's odds had this morning been cut to 1/5 on by Skybet.

“Tilson may be an awful shout for Manager, westwardy, but I'd like to see him on the coaching staff. We need to start from the back and he would at the very least teach our defenders how to defend. Don't think he'll leave Exeter though. Would love to be proved wrong on that one.”

“A good bloke who has always had good things to say about Gasheads.
Whether he can succeed at Rovers 2nd time around is not easy to say.
When considering Johns ups and downs and Higgs complete and utter failiure you could make a good arguement that this will be yet a nother Higgs managerial failiure.
I suppose you never know though, but i think John will keep us in the FL but not much else.
Sadly we still have the hopeless figure of fun Higgs as Chairman.
He and his two pals will see to it Rovers never get above 3rd class.”

“See what I mean about the whole lot of them being flaming deceitful ?
Ward shook hands and agreed to go to Plymouth last week then changed his mind over the flaming weekend so he's left them in the flaming lurch hasn't he ? Why did he change his flaming mind ? Because of flaming grubby fifty pound notes being waved at him by Higgs. Here we go again with someone coming to Rovers just for the flaming money.
What happened last time he came to Rovers in 1993 to save us from flaming relegation ? We got flaming relegated didn't we.
It's a flaming disgrace.”

“OK chaps we have got the change we wanted and the removal of the porridge oat supplier we should put that behind us,and hope JW along with Marcus Stewert as coach bring us safety to at least keep us in div2.
We are all aware that we have a suspect Board over their wheelings and dealings inside the club but this will happen in all divisions from top to bottom in the football leagues. we should now hope that we can push forward with the same enthusiastic support and keep "IRENE" snuggly In a position up the league where she is expected to be.
Whilst all the mud throwing was through the frustration born by all the fans it is time to put all these thoughts behind us and cheer the team back to where we would all like to see.
