John Packwood: Enjoy Bach in your lunchtime
On Friday, November 6, Christian Blackshaw continues his Mozart Sonata Cycle at St George's at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10-£28, concessions from £8.
There are two free lunchtime concerts on the same day. At the Vic Rooms, Susan Sheppard plays the first and fourth of Bach's suites for cello at 1.15pm and at the New Room, John Wesley's Chapel, there is music for soprano, organ and piano at 1.20pm.
Saturday 7 has two big concerts. Firstly, at St Mary Redcliffe, Gavin Carr with Bristol Bach Choir launches their full season with a programme of 20th and 21st century American choral music. Tickets £10-£20, students and under-18s £5. Telephone 01275 349010.
Also at St George's on the same evening, Bristol Camerata and Il Choro Camerata present Handel's Messiah in aid of the St George's 10th birthday appeal, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets £11-£21 concessions from £9 on 08454 024001.
On Saturday morning at Holy Trinity Church, Westbury-on-Trym at 11am, Jonathan Price gives an organ recital in aid of the Organ Restoration Appeal. Suggested donation £5, children under-18 free.
Sunday sees an event at Clifton Cathedral when the Exultate Singers, directed by David Ogden, mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with a programme of modern choral music under the title Beyond The Wall. Welsh National Opera begin their autumn visit with La Traviata on Tuesday whilst the Lunchtime Classic series at the Colston Hall continues with Eric Wang on violin and Jennifer Lee on piano. Starting time 1.05pm. Tickets £5 from 01179 223686.
On Wednesday, WNO will present Madame Butterfly at 7.15pm whilst Thursday sees a rare production of Wozzeck at 8pm.
Prices for all three productions at the Hippodrome range from £7.50 to £39.50.
