Jeffries comes up trumps at Acorn Lake

STEVE Jeffries scraped home by 1-2-0 from Mike Chapman to win the South West Disabled & Over-50s AC match fished on both Match Pool and Paddock Match Lake at Acorn Carp Fishery, Kingston Seymour.

Jeffries poled luncheon meat to the bottom of the island shelf situated at 11.5 metres off bridge peg 40 for a 63-8-0 catch of carp, while Chapman used pellet and paste to tempt a similar 62-6-0 from the margins of corner peg 36.

The top silvers catch from Acorn's Paddock fell to Bob Warren, pictured, who used a variety of baits to coax 13-4-0 of skimmers, roach and f1's from the margins of peg 3. Bob Smith topped Match Pool with a 36-13-0 mixed bag at peg ten. He poled a soft 6mm pellet between six and 13 metres centre and included skimmers, perch and carp to almost 5lb in his winning net.

The top overall silvers weight was taken by Bob Feltham, who scaled a superb 23-9-0 of quality skimmers.

A wet, windy day and a coloured, medium-paced Bristol Avon greeted competitors of the Mardon AC's Summer Cup at Keynsham.

The winner, for the third year in succession was John Lovell, who used feeder tactics with maggot and caster to tempt a 17-12-0 mixed bag from the far side of peg 18.

Joint second was Dave Hulcoop and Simon Roberts with an inseparable 13-8-0.

Hulcoop float fished caster down the inside crease at peg eight, while Roberts fished feeder tactics and single red maggot between middle and the far bank at peg 17.
