Jarvis hails Bristol win
Adrian Jarvis believes Bristol finally showed how ruthless and clinical they can be in their four-try demolition of Cornish Pirates.
And the in-form Bristol Rugby fly-half has called on his side to keep up the intensity as they strive to win promotion back to the Guinness Premiership at the first attempt.
Bristol Rugby bounced back from their home defeat to Exeter with an impressive 35-13 victory at another of their main promotion rivals yesterday, running in four second-half tries to claim a try bonus point.
Jarvis kicked six of his seven attempts at goal, missing only a touchline conversion, as Paul Hull's men racked up their third straight away win in the Championship.
And Jarvis said: "We've shown what we can do now – and we have to be that ruthless both at home and away.
"Our second-half performance has proved that we can play that way away from home – and in difficult conditions. To get a bonus point from a fixture like this is a massive positive for us.
"We were the masters of our own downfall against Exeter – but we've shown here that when we look after the ball, we are right up there. Hopefully, we can get some momentum again now and go on another winning run. If we can beat Moseley at home on Friday we'll be right back on track."
The sides were level at 6-6 at half-time yesterday, before Bristol upped the ante after the break and showed their clinical side, scoring tries through Luke Arscott, Dan Norton, Redford Pennycook and a penalty try. And Jarvis revealed how head coach Hull had to have a word during the interval about the importance of ball retention.
"We got our tactics right in the second half," said Jarvis. "We tried to play a bit too much in the first half and made a few mistakes.
"We'd been talking all week about cutting down the turnovers – and at half-time we had to speak about that again because we'd made too many.
"But, in the second half, there were probably one or two and that was crucial for us in terms of building pressure and then scoring the tries."
Bristol Rugby suffered one key setback in the lead-up to yesterday's match – club captain Roy Winters injured a groin in training and had to miss out.
He will be monitored by the club's medical staff this week – but is already rated doubtful to face Moseley at the Memorial Stadium on Friday.
