A DRIVER who dragged a policeman alongside his car for some 25 metres has been jailed for 14 months.

Aaron Smith, 28, of Riverleaze, Sea Mills, admitted dangerous driving when he drove in Passage Road, Henbury, with the officer grabbing at him and the steering wheel. Remorseful Smith, who had previous convictions for driving while disqualified and taking a vehicle without consent, had apologised directly to the officer concerned, Bristol Crown Court heard.

The court was told the entrepreneur had a number of business interests and was able to make something of his life.

Judge Carol Hagen banned him from driving for two years and told him to pass an extended driving test before returning to the road.
