Jail for Knowle West drug dealer
A Knowle West man found with Class A drugs stuffed under his mattress has been jailed for three years.
Shaun Duval tucked his hand under his bed, before jumping on top of it, when police burst in on a search warrant, Bristol Crown Court heard.
Officers found 120 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine under the mattress and elsewhere, weighing a total of just over 22g.
Father-to-be Duval, aged 23, of Creswicke Road, pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.
Imposing sentence Mr Recorder KJ Lindblom QC told him: "You became involved in an operation of drugs supply concerned in both heroin and cocaine.
"It seems to me you were brought into it when you owed somebody money and you believed it would be a sensible way of making money quickly."
John Penny, prosecuting, told the court that as well as the wraps, police found bits of plastic bags, traces of drugs, seven mobile phones and what appeared to be a "dealer list" logging transactions.
He said: "Mr Duval was arrested and interviewed and said he had started to work for somebody else.
"He said this man delivered drugs to him, he held them, and a second man would collect smaller quantities of wraps which he would sell and leave cash for.
"The first man then picked up the cash at the end of the day."
The court heard the operation netted some £1,000 a day and Duval claimed the "dealer list" was simply a record of his dealings with the second man.
Timothy Rose, defending, said his client pleaded guilty before magistrates at the first opportunity.
He said: "He has been exploited. He owed money to a person who asked him to do it. It had been going on two weeks and he thought he was being used as a temporary arrangement for the delivery and collection of these drugs.
"It is quite clear that he had no idea as to the seriousness of the position he was putting himself in.
"He is not a man of strong personal intelligence, he is not a man who could be controlling this exercise. He was, effectively, being controlled by them."
