So now we know. Jade Ewen will be the act to finish in last place at this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

The 21-year-old Londoner secured the public's vote in the final of BBC1's Your Country Needs You and will represent Royaume-Uni in Moscow.

Far be it for me to join the chorus of internet blogging crazy-heads and shout "Fix!", but everything was choreographed for her to win. Take the running order. Just like The X Factor's Alexandra Burke in December, Jade was the last of the three finalists to sing with a big-ballad version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "haven't-I-heard-that-somewhere-before-from-one-of-your-musicals" Eurovision song My Time, which she "made her own", as opposed to The Twins' Everly Brothers arrangement, nice though it was.

Then there was Jade's flipping "journey" culminating in the heart-tugging footage of her at home caring for her blind parents.

And the small fact that, as I said from the outset, she was the only outstanding performer of the series, even if she had been parachuted in by Lloyd Webber when he realised no one decent had auditioned. Predictable coronations aside, other highlights from Saturday's live final included Russia's reigning Eurovision champion Dima Bilan spontaneously breaking into song to the tune of Lloyd Webber's Euro entry to wish everyone good luck.

There was also Jade's requisite breakdown during her winner's song.

And optimistic panto star Mark Evans hoping: "If I get told on Saturday night, 'the winning act is Mark,' from everything that has happened already to everything that will happen, this will be the best moment of my life." Yeah! I wouldn't get your hopes up, son.

Then, as host Graham Norton teased, there was the unnamed "very special guest" coming up who would be performing with the three easily forgotten acts that hadn't made the final – Emperors of Soul, Charlotte, and, erm, the other one.

They sang Relight My Fire by Take That and Lulu, and, of course, Lulu has not only won Eurovision but she's been the resident guest on the sofa for the live shows.

So, who would this very special guest be? Midway through the number, out they strode – straight, blonde, shoulder-length hair, 1980s-style big round shades, sparkly silver jackets, heavy gold jewellery everywhere, a legend in the pop music business, still looking great and defying the aging process.

Surely it couldn't be, could it? Jimmy Saville? Oh, Lulu. Yes, that does make more sense.
