Isaac's ton helps Bristol West Indians to cup victory

Isaac Reid led the way with the bat to help Bristol West Indians make progress in the Southwest Glass Under-17 Knockout Cup.

Reid plundered an impressive 119 not out to help West Indians finish on 208-2 in their first-round tie against Whitchurch.

The visitors were restricted to 102-6 as West Indians secured a convincing 106-run victory to cruise into the second round.

Elsewhere in the competition, Rockhampton scored 94 for the loss of eight wickets to eliminate Lansdown (92-6). Bristol YMCA skittled out Knowle for 98 and scored 99-4 in reply to win by six wickets and book their place in the next round.

An unbeaten 83 from Ben Pine was not enough for Frenchay to overcome Bedminster in the second round. A knock of 76 from Omar Randhawa helped Bedminster put on 176-5 and in reply Frenchay were only able to muster 146-7 to lose by 30 runs.

Bishopston bowler Ned Smith recorded the most impressive figures with the ball, a stunning 4-6 haul. Bishopston had managed to reach 142-2 in their innings against Bristol YMCA A and were never in danger of being caught after Smith went to work. YMCA were skittled out for a paltry 38 to give Bishopston a 106-run win in Section D of the Under-11 league.

Chipping Sodbury A completed a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Frampton Cotterell in Section A. Frampton were bowled out for just 46 and Chipping Sodbury (48-1) easily chased down the score. Sodbury were following up their Under-11 Knockout Cup victory over Hambrook earlier in the week. Bowler Chris Butcher took 2-4 off 24 balls as Hambrook were restricted to 67-7 and Sodbury won by 39 runs.

In Section C, Pak Bristolians (92-2) saw off Whitchurch (90-7) with eight wickets in hand.

In the Under-13 league, Bitton suffered back-to-back defeats despite useful contributions with the bat from Adam Canning. Canning smashed an unbeaten 54 as Bitton registered 94-2 in their innings at Hanham in a Section D clash. The hosts replied with 98-2 to win with eight wickets in hand.

Canning then hit an unbeaten 38 the following day as Bitton reached 113-1 against Bristol West Indians.

Aaron MacLean scored an unbeaten 46 in reply as Bristol West Indians made 114-5 to win by five wickets.

In Section E, Twyford House (96-6) secured a 20-run victory over Bishopston A (76-8).

Nailsea A were in Frank Benner Under-13 Cup action and posted a 120-run win against Bristol YMCA.

Liam Lester smashed an unbeaten 101 not out and Josh Dann ended 81 not out to lay the foundations for the victory. YMCA could only manage 104-7 in reply.

Bowler Harry Ball posted impressive figures of 3-12 to help Thornbury Blue into the second round.

Ball's heroics helped skittle out Coalpit Heath all out for 91 to end their hopes of chasing down Thornbury's total of 122-3, in which Marcus Wormwell (52no) top-scored.

Portishead booked their place in the next round with a narrow six-run victory over Bedminster. Portishead finished on 110-6, helped by a knock of 30 not out by James Smith, before restricting their opponents to 104-5.

Rockhampton (81-7) managed a three-wicket victory over Frampton Cotterell in Section A of the Under-15 league.

Charlie Killick (55) and Charlie Garrett (46no) starred as Shirehampton finished on 139-2 in their Section D clash against Bedminster. Skipper Reece John led a spirited fightback with an unbeaten 73 but was unable to prevent a 16-run defeat as Bedminster closed on 123-5.

Stoke Bishop (146-4) beat Bristol YMCA (75-5) by 71 runs to book their place in the second round of the Urban Windows Under-15 Cup. Chipping Sodbury B (82-1) joined them after a nine-wicket victory over Bristol Phoenix (79-9). Pucklechurch and Stapleton also negotiated safe passage into the next round.

Pucklechurch skittled out Patchway out for 68 and then successfully completed the chase for the loss off five wickets. Stapleton made 152-3 in their first-round clash with Downend A before restricting the visitors to 99-8 to win by 53 runs.

Bristol YMCA were also in cup action and managed to beat Brislington in the Nationwide Building Society Under-15 competition.

George Bacon top-scored for YMCA with 47 as the visitors passed Brislington's 103-4 (Will Ollis 39no) with three wickets in hand.

Bishopston's A and B sides clashed, with the favourites coming out on top. The B squad managed 76-9 in their innings before the A team (77-3) secured a seven-wicket win.

Unbeaten half-centuries from openers James Taverner (52no) and Sam Bracey (51no) helped Winterbourne to chase down Hanham's 129-4 to book their place in the next round.

George Harris impressed for Hanham with 35, but Winterbourne managed to overcome the target without the loss of a single wicket.
