A swan was rescued from a lake after it flew into electricity lines, leaving it with a suspected broken wing and leg.

A rescue boat was called out by wildlife group Secret World after a walker spotted the bird on a lake at Westhay near Burnham-on-Sea on Sunday morning.

Graeme Thompson, from the group, said: "A nearby resident had seen the bird hitting some power lines, leaving it shocked and with suspected multiple injuries.

"Attempts to reach it from the banks of the lake had failed, so using the rescue boat from Burnham was essential."

Mr Thompson was taken out on to the water by crewmen from the Burnham Area Rescue Boat charity (BARB), captured the bird and took it to Secret World, where it is now being treated by wildlife experts.

“Ouch . . . Poor Mr Swan . . .it had to be a Mr Swan as a Mrs Swan wouldn't be so silly as to fly into Power Lines ;-)
I tripped over a loose electricity wire this morning and I'd like to also be "treated by wildlife experts" , but a nice cup of tea and a toasted teacake will do for me ;-)
    Hope you get better soon . . Mr Swan . . :D”
