Injured swan rescued from lake
Rescuers used a boat to capture an injured swan on lake in Burnham-on-Sea after the bird was discovered with a barbed hook embedded in its beak.
The female swan was in an agitated state, with the razor-sharp hook causing her pain.
The wound was bleeding and staff at the Lakeside Holiday Park contacted wildlife group Secret World and the Burnham-on-Sea Area Rescue Boat service for help.
Secret World volunteer Terry Gratton said the swan had swallowed a length of fishing line, which had the hook at the end.
BARB crew members Ellie West and Al Humphries used a net to capture the swan as 50 holidaymakers looked on. Two members of staff at the holiday park also helped with the rescue.
Secret World's carers took the bird away for treatment but she was later returned to her young family of cygnets.
