Blackpool have been rocked by news that key midfielder Chris Basham will miss Saturday’s npower Championship clash against Bristol City.

Basham was involved in a clash of heads with Leicester defender Wes Morgan last weekend and a hospital scan subsequently revealed a fractured cheekbone and eye socket.

He will be out of action for a month and his absence will force Seasiders boss Paul Ince to make an unwanted change to the side to face the Robins.

Basham’s injury adds to Ince’s midfield woes, with Isaiah Osbourne doubtful after straining a hamstring against Leeds.

Still seeking his first win since taking charge at Bloomfield Road three weeks ago, Ince has stressed the importance of keeping things tight against a City side that put five past Barnsley last time out.

He told the Blackpool Gazette: “We spent two days last week just on defensive situations and I think that showed against Leicester. We kept a clean sheet but it was the way we kept it. There was a real desire not to concede and we’ve done a lot of work again this week on defending.

“We’ve looked at Bristol City. They scored five goals from five set-pieces last week against Barnsley, so we’ve worked on that all week. We’ve drip-fed the players bits of information all week.

“I like to work on the method of drip-feeding, so that it’s there in their minds by Saturday. We’ve also done a lot of work on attacking phases. Hopefully it will all come together.”

While defence is vital, Ince is also demanding an improvement at the other end of the pitch.

Blackpool have failed to score in their last two games and Ince said: “We need to have a right go at them attacking-wise.

“I don’t care if we win 1-0, 2-0 or whatever, but we have to have that winning mentality. We have to try to win the game. That doesn’t mean go gung-ho. We need to keep it tight, try to get the first goal and go on to win the game.

“Bristol will be coming here in a positive mood after a good win, but just because they are where they are in the league (second-bottom), we can’t think we are going to roll them over. They have some good players up front.”

“I always enjoyed watching PI as a player, I hope he isnt as impressive this week as a manager even though I wish him luck BUT not this week.”
