'Inconsiderate oafs'
I T may be a closely guarded secret by Bristol City Council Cycling Club, but I have come across their Olympic cycling track that has cost the council tax payer many millions of pounds.
With Bristol's OAPs struggling to pay inflated utility bills, heat their homes or pay for food, isn't it quite irresponsible for the city council to pour tax payers' funds into a cycling track that is, well, just a hobby for a privileged and sanctimonious few?
With the surfaces of most of Bristol's roads resembling rutted cart tracks and cars wrecked by the pounding of speed bumps, I was surprised to see that the cycling track has a billiard table smooth surface.
With pedestrians, using any footpath in Bristol places their lives in the hands of silent, speeding cyclists. I was intrigued to see that same belligerent attitude by cyclists on the cycle track.
With vehicle speeds being reduced to 20mph across Bristol, I am flabbergasted that cyclists are encouraged to race along, silently at 40mph, with a total disregard for pedestrians of any age.
With vehicles on our roads being stopped by traffic lights every 100 yards for "road safety" reasons, why are cyclists given a 13-mile cycle track where they can speed irresponsibly and unhindered?
We discovered this track when out for a walk with grandchildren and dogs at the weekend. Our walk was a nightmare due to the totally inconsiderate, cycling oafs that clearly are not allowed to slow down or be courteous to other path users.
The council should be ashamed of itself for allowing this minority group of self-important, dangerous individuals to put their own lives and those of children at risk.
Brian Rogers,
Kingswood.

“Why do you bother stalking me?
Or indeed post that particular message?”

“"Twaht watch and Mo Terorist", aka George, Pedro Mendes, Roger, etc, etc, etc, the BEP's resident half-witted cycling law breaking hypocrite.
Why, why do you bother?”

“40mph on a bike, on relatively flat tarmac? You'd have to be Mark Cavendish to achieve that and even then it'd be for about 1km at the most. A vast exaggeration.
I'd also like to inquire as to where you got this info about the Olympic cycling track as I can't find any mention of it anywhere beyond this ignorant, ill-informed 'opinion' piece. Drivel like this, does nothing more than compound pointless, ignorant and misguided arguments for people seemingly incapable of rational thought.
There are idiotic drivers
There are idiotic cyclists
There are idiotic pedestrians
Likewise,
There are sensible drivers
There are sensible cyclists
There are sensible pedestrians
Until people can get these simple facts in to their stupid little heads, we'll end up having this mindless circle-jerk of an argument to absolutely no effect.”

“Dan's right. This is likely to be a made up letter. Note how the guy went out for walk with grandkids and dogs - maximum emotional impact. What is he moaning about?. Bikes on a bike path?. What next, moaning about cars on the road?.
I use the path all the time and the chances of you having an accident on it are the same level as a BEP journalists IQ - extremely low.
The railway path was built by cyclebag, now Sustrans (and lots of volunteers), who had the vision to create an alternative to using the car. For Mr Rogers information, should he exist at all, it's linear nature is because trains don't join lines at right angles like roads!. It, therefore, doesn't need traffic lights.
Speaking of traffic lights, are there any nutters here who still think switching them off will aid congestion?. Well, going home last friday, the lights near Temple Meads were off and traffic looked rather jammed up to me.
Finally, the eyesore of a brick building the BEP offices pass for has got boarding all around it. This means they've lost their pavement driving and parking facility. Must be annoying to have to actually walk to the office, poor things.”
