Imperial produced a powerful second-half display to surge clear of Bishopston and book a home clash against Honiton in the RFU Junior Vase.

The home side defended superbly in the final five minutes of the first period to turn around 8-6 in front. And a burst of 17 points in seven minutes then sealed the spoils, with Imperial making their experience and superior strength count.

No 8 Andy Veal put the home side in front with a try, before Bish battled back with two Jon Martin penalties. Scrum-half Ross Hickery then landed a penalty for Imperial, who had to work hard in defence as the half ended before pulling clear in the second period.

Hickery's second penalty stretched the lead to 11-6 before fly-half Dean Payne showed good strength and determination to bash his way over under the posts, Hickery converting.

And Hickery then played a key role in the next try on the hour, his long cut-out pass enabling winger Rob Taylor to coast over wide on the left for a converted score.

Bish, who battled at this stage to break out of their own half, conceded a penalty try when winger Nick Towe was tackled without the ball five metres short of the line chasing a kick ahead. But the visitors had the last word with a consolation try from Martin, who added the conversion to make it 32-13.

Old Redcliffians will be away to Camborne in the last 16 of the Intermediate Cup after an impressive 41-5 triumph at Berry Hill.

Centre Henry Goldson (2), winger Joe Woodward, No 8 Jed Hooper, winger Paul Todd, hooker Liam McCreight and flanker Chris Lane led the charge as fly-half Ross Martin capped another fine display with three conversions.

Reds, who led 17-5 at the turnaround, gave a first taste of senior action to 18-year-old hooker Dan Palmer with 20 minutes to go. And he was soon joined in the front row by father Darren, who came on as replacement tighthead to complete an unusual family double.

In the Senior Vase, Bristol Harlequins paid the price for making a slow start at home to Cirencester, who edged through 18-16.

The visitors were quicker out of the blocks, claiming two tries in the first 10 minutes, while a further score helped them turn around 15-6 ahead.

And, although Quins dominated the second half, they left themselves with too much to do before time ran out.

Chris Page landed two penalties in the first period for the home side, who then pulled back into contention with a converted try from winger Kevin Morgan.

Cirencester secured important breathing space with a penalty. And, although full-back Scott Manning touched down five minutes from time, the conversion went narrowly wide and with it Quins' hopes of taking the tie into extra time were ended.
