A man in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Bristol.

The victim was walking home in the early hours of Sunday when he was hit by a car, believed to be a Volvo, in Lansdown Road, Kingswood.

It happened at 3.15am, just metres from Soundwell Ambulance Station.

Police said the vehicle which struck the man failed to stop.

The man was found lying injured in the road.

Police are trying to trace the owner of the car involved.

Officers went to Lansdown Road yesterday morning to speak to residents and take photographs of the scene.

All the people living near the scene of the accident were asleep at the time.

One man, who did not wish to be named, said: “We sleep in the back so we didn’t hear anything.“It happened at about 3am. The police were here this morning . I understand it’s quite serious.”

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for anyone with information or who saw the collision to contact them on 0845 456 7000 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“The good news is the car that I watched this morning go through a pedestrian crossing 5 seconds after it changed to red was only doing 20mph. So there was no risk to any pedestrians. Sleep well.”
