Further to an ex-cat lover's letter on April 23, how I wholeheartedly agree with your letter.

I have been plaqued with cats for the last 15 years. I have bought every cat deterrent on the market and have used all the remedies been advised from friends, family and the internet.

Last year in August alone, I spent over £20 buying products to deter neighbour's cats from fouling my garden.

The cat-lover brigade come up with the old story of buy a water pistol – done that, bought that, but unfortunately these damn moggies are roaming all night and I need some sleep.

When you approach the owners of these cats, you are met with the usual "they are free-roaming, what am I supposed to do", well it is high time they shouldn't be free-roaming and my first answer is to buy a litter tray and start cleaning up after your own cat.

Just imagine if I deposited the contents of my grandchildren's nappies on their garden, there would be ructions to pay and no doubt the law would have something to say about it.

There is so much talk of human rights in this day and age, well its about time consideration was given to the human rights of people such as myself and those whose lives are being made a misery by other people's cats. It is time the law did something about it to make people be responsible for their own animals.

I can well imagine why people love cats, after all they are cuddly, sat on your knee all evening purring away while you are watching TV but come when they need the toilet – "out you go, go find somebody's nice garden to go in, scratch up all their plants, dig up all their soil, and leavy a smelly heap for them to clean up".

Well I give in, I have had enough, your felines have won, we are going to get rid of the garden and pave it over, the sad thing is it won't make me happy and it surely won't make the neighbour's moggies happy as they will have to go find somebody new to pester.
