This is Bristol

O n Tuesday night, I watched Troy's friends, including my niece and nephews, complete their walk from Cabot Circus to Troy's house ("March tribute to Troy", Post, May 6).

With them was Troy's mother and brother, for whatever has been said in the past about Hartcliffe youths, I have yet to see more dedication to a friend and his family anywhere else in Bristol.

I have lived in Hartcliffe for nearly 40 years and through all the events that have taken place, this one made me the proudest of living here.

I only knew Troy briefly as he was a friend of my grandson and he lived opposite my daughter, but I'm sure his family must have been very proud of what his friends achieved out of respect for them and their friend Troy.

Well done to them all and God bless Troy.

Margaret Howells, Hartcliffe.

“I am the grandmother of Troy Atkinson and his brothers Daniel and Warren. I was with Troy on the night he died and to see my family go through this is nothing short of hell. However, whoever the scum was that has devastated my family and numerous friends can never be sentanced fairly, but neither can the vast minority that spoilt the wonderful gestures and support of the majority at 'the walk'. Old and yound alike have been wonderful. Friends and total strangers pulled together and to my daughter Kim, this has been overwhelming.
To the shopowner I would like to say that I think you miscounted the offenders, they were but a handful and you handled the situation diabolically, classing all the walkers the same and overexaggerating your loss.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for you kindness and support. Well done Hartcliffe and Bristol South - most of you are 'simply the best'!!!

On behalf of myself and family, I would like to send our sincere condolences to the family of young Sam Riddall and we truly hope they hold their heads high as do my entire family.”
