A Congresbury hotel has stopped tap on using bottled mineral water as part of a drive to improve its green credentials.

Until now, Cadbury House Hotel Health Club and Spa would send anything up to 400 mineral water bottles a month to be recycled.

This meant that there were regular deliveries of bottled water by lorry to the four-star venue and additional trips to take the used bottles away.

But the installation of a new filtered water system coupled with a bottle sanitation process will mean no more mineral water bottles will be delivered or sent from the site.

Cadbury House general manager, Mark Hands, said: "We are dedicated to minimising our carbon footprint whilst at the same time providing a top class hotel and leisure facilities.

"We're constantly looking to achieve the highest standard of excellence in energy and environmental management and setting examples for others to follow. The new water system is one step towards achieving that goal."

The new system is from Vivreau and works where designer bottles are filled via the mains with still or sparkling water using the system's on-site purification system.

It means all bottles are reused again and again eliminating deliveries and reducing transport CO2 whilst at the same time easing congestion and pollution.

It also eliminates packaging waste associated with pre-bottled waters and reduces refrigerated storage requirements by chilling water on demand.

Mark added: "The new table water bottling system will have an immediate and dramatic impact on our carbon footprint."
