Hops and Glory book event in Bristol
Beer lover and author Pete Brown will be stepping aboard the Grain Barge on Thursday as part of a tour for his new book Hops and Glory.
The event, in Hotwells Road, starts at 8pm. There is no charge for entry but a suggested donation of £2 on the door which will go to a nominated charity.
The book charts the author's experiences crewing aboard the tall ship Europa as it crosses the equator, carried by the same trade winds that took early European explorers to India on the spice route.
The 18,000 mile voyage retraced the original route taken by the old East Indiamen ships that took India Pale Ale (IPA) from England to India, a journey that took three months.
Pete will tell the story of how IPA was developed for export to the subcontinent and will recount tales of his epic journey from its brewing home in Burton-on-Trent to his final destination of Calcutta.
Bristol Beer Factory hopes to have a celebratory IPA available on the night – limited to one night only.
