The event was the culmination of an inter-generational project aimed at building community links between the pre-schoolers and St Monica Trust residents.

Julie Claridge, manager of the pre-school, said: "It's unfortunate that lots of our children's grandparents don't actually live in Bristol, so their day-to-day experience of older people is very limited.

"Linking up with St Monica Trust has been wonderful because it's been a great opportunity for everyone, old and young, to share their experiences."

The children, who are aged three and four, have become regular visitors to residents at the Garden House Nursing Care Home, baking cookies for them, performing nursery rhymes and putting on a Christmas Nativity play.
