Bath City 2 Welling United 1: Chris Holland's late header earned Bath City victory over Welling United at Twerton Park.

Holland's effort five minutes from time came after Welling's Jake Hobbs cashed in on a mistake by Will Puddy to cancel out Gethin Jones' first-half opener.

Darren Edwards squandered two fine first-half opportunities when one-on-one with Welling keeper Charlie Mitten, but City led at the interval after Jones emphatically headed them in front from Adam Connolly's free-kick.

Welling improved in the second period and equalised with 20 minutes left. On-loan Cheltenham Town keeper Puddy chose to control a back-pass outside his area and was closed down by Hobbs, who rolled the ball in from a tight angle.

But City were not to be denied and when substitute Lewis Hogg's free-kick found Holland in space, the big centre-back sent a superb header sailing over the stranded Mitten.

Winger Richard Evans sat out the game with a foot problem and is likely to be missing again when City travel to Havant tonight. Stuart Douglas (neck) is also sidelined.

Manager Adie Britton said: "Havant have improved their squad, but let's get down there and get something out of the game."

"We did last year – drawing 0-0 with 10 men and deserving to win it – so let's do better this year."
