Hobbs hits hat-trick as Henbury rout Axa
Henbury claimed the bragging rights after a Shane Hobbs hat-trick helped them to a 6-1 victory over local rivals Axa.
On a bumpy pitch, the hosts were relentless in their approach and Hobbs opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a great strike from the edge of the penalty area that gave Axa goalkeeper James Pearce no chance.
Henbury increased their lead in the 27th minute with a superb individual goal from George Watts, who weaved past three Axa defenders before driving the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards.
The hosts made it 3-0 a minute before half-time when Craig Hobbs decieved Pearce with a neat chip that dipped just under the bar.
Henbury's fourth arrived in the second half after Pearce did well to save Aaron Wilson's shot but Shane Hobbs drove home the rebound, and on the hour it was five when Wilson headed home from a Hobbs cross.
Axa did manage to get a consolation goal in the 80th minute, when Andy Sledge turned in a Danny Thorpe cross, but Henbury scored immediately in response, Shane Hobbs completing his hat-trick.
Thornbury Town gained a excellent 3-2 victory over Tuffley Rovers to ease any fears of relegation. Thornbury had fallen behind after just two minutes to a Marcus Foxwell goal, and it took them another 48 minutes to get on level terms.
Chris Parry, making his home debut for Thornbury, levelled with a 40-yard cracker. Town then took the lead on the hour mark, when James Derosa stabbed the ball into the net after a scramble in the box. Rovers levelled with a Ben Surman penalty in the 70th minute, but Parry's 85th-minute free-kick gave the Tuffley goalkeeper no chance and secured the win for Thornbury.
Ellwood moved top of the league with a resounding 4-0 win at Highridge United at the Creek.
Daryl Addis opened the scoring, with Gary Wildin scoring twice, including one penalty before Addis completed his brace.
The shock of the day came at Wisloe Road, where Taverners ran out 2-0 winners over Slimbridge thanks to first-half goals from Russ Chamberlain and Kris Pritlove.
Yate Town Reserves took their unbeaten run to seven games with a 5-3 victory at B&W Avonside.
Yate took the lead early on when Nuno Felix netted the rebound after B&W's debutant keeper Alex Lippiatt had made a save. B&W were level within five minutes through Kia Simpson's shot from the edge of the box.
Yate then scored two quick goals, both from Justin Cattle and both from short range. Nuno Felix then netted his second just before the break to give the visitors a comfortable 4-1 lead.
In the second half B&W pulled a goal back when Mike Morris scored after a scramble in the box. Alan Day then closed the gap to 4-3, but Yate had the final word in the dying minutes, when they caught B & W on the break and Nuno Felix netted his third of the afternoon.
