History in store at M&S at Cribbs Causeway
The Marks and Spencer store at Cribbs Causeway is hosting a three-day exhibition of historical items as part of the chain's 125th anniversary.
The exhibition tour is visiting 25 M&S stores across the country following the launch of the 'Marks in Time' birthday exhibition at the University of Leeds, which is showcasing more than 200 archive pieces.
The exhibition in Bristol includes some of the earliest M&S merchandise sold in the M&S Penny Bazaars from 1894 to 1925, the first UK-wide uniform for M&S employees worn in 1949, and commemorative food packaging based on the original 1950s designs held in the company archive.
In addition, the exhibition provides a brief history of M&S told through a range of iconic photographs taken across the past 125 years.
Yesterday, Alison Houston from the company's archive team was on hand to guide customers through the exhibition and answer questions about M&S's heritage.
Kirsty Shields, company archivist, said: "It's a great opportunity for everyone to get a real taste of our company heritage, especially for those who are unable to visit the full exhibition in Leeds."
The exhibition at the Cribbs Causeway store runs until tomorrow.
