Historic statue hit by graffiti
A HISTORIC monument in the middle of Queen Square has been defaced with graffiti by vandals.
The plinth supporting a brass statue of King William III has been daubed with the words "Remember 3 Crossbows", with an arrow, in red paint.
-

The first 's' of 'crossbows' appears to have been written as a '3', but it is unclear what this cryptic message means.
Do you know what the graffiti on the plinth means? Call the news desk on 0117 934 3330.

“Even the 1831 rioters having burned down the Mayor's Mansion and Bishop's Palace along there, didn't destroy this fine equestrian piece. Forward a couple of centuries, and mindless thugs daub nonsense on it!
Put CCTV cameras around it now!”

“130 rioters alleged killed in the charge by Dragoons in 1831. Many more rioters died in buildings, both private and commercial, that they set alight themselves.
Dissatisfaction of the government fuelled by alcohol. Repeated many times since but without recourse to the military - except of course in Northern Ireland.”

“Maybe someone feels there ought to be a memorial to the Queen's Square riots where many were killed by cavalary, rather than some gadge on a horse??????????”

“Don't encourage the morons by giving them credibility.
It's just a piece of mindless vandalism on arguably the finest equestrian statue in the country.
It's probably the work of a dyslexic pea brain.”
