Patience proved a virtue for Highridge United Under-10s as they eventually brushed aside St Vallier's challenge with aplomb.

Heading into half-time with the score goalless in game one of their Division B clash, Highridge looked set for a difficult second period.

Instead, they ran away with the game, winning 4-0 thanks to two goals each from Jack Godfrey and star man Oliver Greenslade, whose second was struck from a near-impossible angle.

Harry Hemmings was only denied a place on the scoresheet by some great saves from the Saints keeper, while Cameron Williams was sound in defence and Liam Morgan and Shaynah Doherty battled well in midfield.

Ben Priddis' hat-trick and a fourth goal by the energetic Billy Beese saw Highridge to a 4-0 second-match win and 8-1 overall victory.

Callum White and Kyle Matthews contributed well, while goalkeeper Karl Finn made one fantastic save, pushing a shot on to a post only for St Vallier to tap in the rebound for their consolation goal.

Aaron Banfield also caught the eye for Highridge with some crunching tackles and Bradley Flook brought the ball out of defence well.

Keynsham Town also rattled up eight goals over their two encounters with visitors Mangotsfield United A in the same division.

Lochlainn Collins put them ahead early on in game one and that should have been the prelude to more goals as they dominated possession.

But they failed to failed to capitalise and were pegged back by Mangotsfield straight from the second-half kick-off as a surprise shot from the centre spot found its way into the net.

Playing against the wind, Keynsham found the second half tougher but they finished the match strongly and two late Corey Clifton goals gave them a hard-earned 3-1 advantage to take into the second game.

Jacob Ware won his first man-of-the-match award of the season for an excellent defensive display.

Keynsham again had the advantage of the wind from the start in game two – and this time they didn't let Mangotsfield off the hook, sweeping to a 5-1 win.

Doubles from Jordan Hooper and George Rooke, plus an Owen Cocking strike, secured the victory before Mangos claimed a consolation goal with a fine top-corner finish.

Star performer Joel Milhofer was involved in everything for Keynsham with his powerful running from midfield.

Avon Athletic shaded their rearranged Under-10 Cup fixture with Bitton, winning 3-2.

Bitton produced some neat passing football in game one but failed to carve out clear-cut chances and went down 2-0.

In game two, Bitton enjoyed the majority of the first-half possession and Eli Britton reduced the overall deficit with the opneing goal.

At that stage, it looked as though they might go on to win, but Athletic contined to defend doggedly. Avon's second-half equaliser, making it 3-1 over the two fixtures, gave Bitton a mountain to climb. But, to their credit, they kept pushing forward and Liam Britton's excellent headed goal set up a nailbiting finish.

Warmley B beat Bromley Heath 3-1 in a thrilling Under-11 Division C game, which saw both sides attack and defend well despite the difficult conditions.

Keegan Knight (2) and Callum Loud were on target for Warmley, with Kyle Morrison netting for Heath.

Both teams squandered other chances and Warmley also missed a penalty.

Bradley Stoke Youth kicked off 2009 as they had ended 2008 – with a home win.

Two Khoben Mowthorpe goals and a Louis Welsman strike saw them to a 3-0 Division B victory over Yate Rangers, aided by a strong display from man-of-the-match Kieran Barlow.

AEK Boco continued their fine form in Division A with a 6-0 win over Yate United.

Both teams found the gusty wind difficult to cope with early on.

Yate's defence stood strong for the first 20 minutes, with all their players working hard, but Boco soon got into their stride and a quality move was rewarded by Bradley Wheadon's excellent finish to give them a 1-0 half-time lead.

The second half saw the wind settle and Boco got to work quickly with Josh Kellet-Butt striking the post within the first minute.

Nifty footwork by the same player then put Jack Robson clean through to produce an incisive finish.

More good movement led to four further goals, from Matty Everidge (2), Kellet-Butt and star man Jack Green, although Yate battled hard to the end with Harley Warren shining for them.

Boco had Keaton Lacey, Luke Withey, Charlie Pugsley and Georgina Lacey at the back to thank too for keeping another clean sheet.
