High-flying Bryan posts a championship record in Birmingham
LUCY Bryan soared to a superb victory at the England Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham. The 17-year-old Bristol & West AC athlete won the Under-20 women's pole vault with a championship record clearance of 4.15m.
That easily eclipsed the previous best of 4.01m set by Sale Harriers Manchester athlete Katie Byres in 2010 and put Bryan, who will end the indoor season as top of the UK Rankings, 75cms clear of the field.
Also at the championships, Bristol & West sprinter Chris Stone continued his rapid improvement by claiming bronze in the Under-20 men's 200m final and running three sub-22 second clockings. The 17-year-old broke his club record again in the process with a best of 21.73secs.
Club-mate Elliott Prendergast did well to make the final of the Under-20 men's 60m.
