Pill rag committee has chosen its royal family members for this year's rag day.

They are Helen Brayley, 20, an animal management student, who has been chosen as Rag Queen; Sam Hunt, 21, who works in finance in Clifton, who will be the King; and Samantha Burton, 17, an A-level student, who has been chosen as Attendant.

Committee members also selected Mandy Bradley, 25, a coffee shop worker, as Queen Mother.

The family will make their appearance at this year's event held on the village green on June 6.

Committee chairman Pauline McDade, said: "We usually have someone who is impartial and does not know the people from the village who select people for each role. However, the person who was doing it fell ill and so I asked my mother to come along and step in as she doesn't know any of them.

"Preparations are still under way but on the day there will be a pet show and children's fancy dress.

"There will also be lead-up events including the annual duck race of 300 plastic ducks in the river and a pamper night.

"This is an excellent family day that has been going for 80 years and I have been involved in it for 20-years now.

"We are always looking for new committee members to get involved and give us fresh ideas.

"If anyone is interested they can call me on 0797 1535056."
