Henbury chalk up a 6-1 success in Avon Youth League
Henbury Colts stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a 6-1 success against Stoke Lane Athletic B in Under-16 Division 1 of the Avon Youth League.
Colts completed the task without main striker Luke Lockyer, who broke his leg in their previous week's draw with Stoke Lane and faces a fight to be fit in time for the start of next season.
Both sides created chances early on, but Henbury deservedly went in front when Jack Mills' free-kick to the far post was headed back across goal for Tom Palmer to head in. Palmer should have increased the lead but was thwarted by keeper Joe Manning on three occasions.
Joseph Hicks eventually added a second goal for Henbury before the break, with a fine individual effort.
The game was finished as a contest early in the second half, as Henbury scored three times in the opening 12 minutes. Debutant Dan Fry scored with a delightful chip over replacement keeper Ben Williams' head, before star man Jamie Turner headed in a Luke Cox corner and Palmer struck his second from a cross by Fry.
Stoke Lane, who are still without a win, continued to battle and were rewarded with a Grant Williams goal following a Gerald Asante through-pass, and Williams was twice denied by two fine Dale Hill saves.
At the other end, Fry should have completed his hat-trick, squandering four one-on-one opportunities, before Mills completed the scoring with a crisp 25-yard drive.
