Bristol Rovers' home game with Leeds United later this month will still be used to raise cash for the Help For Heroes fund.

Bristol Rovers and the Yorkshire club had both given their backing that the clash – originally scheduled for this Saturday – would be nominated to help the charity that supports service personnel wounded while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

There were fears that might no longer be possible when this weekend's game was called off because Leeds have players away on international duty.

But Bristol Rovers' chairman Nick Higgs today confirmed that the rearranged fixture on Tuesday, October 27 – which is expected to be a sell-out – will still be used to boost the cause.

Higgs said: "We are pleased to be able to announce that the rearranged fixture will still be a Help for Heroes match. Both teams are committed to helping the cause, and members of the RAF 216 Squadron are still able to come down and hold bucket collections. We are also getting close to securing some half-time entertainment, to make it a really special occasion.

"We know this is a cause that is very close to the hearts of a lot of our supporters, and we are delighted to be doing what we can to help."

Bristol Rovers were initially approached by 216 squadron, based in Brize Norton, which operates the Tristar aircraft used to carry the vast majority of the British forces serving in Afghanistan – and also ferrying out the injured.

Both teams will be warming up before the game in Help for Heroes T-shirts, which will then be signed and auctioned off for the charity.

Bristol Rovers are also asking any veterans attending the game to wear their berets as a sign of support for The Veterans National Defence Medal campaign, which is lobbying for the Government to recognise and honour military service wherever undertaken from 1945 onwards.

Tickets for Rovers' trip to MK Dons on Saturday, October 31 are now on sale from the club's two outlets.

The Pirates have been given an initial allocation of 300 seats at stadium:mk and the club are advising supporters to buy in advance as the Dons do not operate a cash turnstile system.

Tickets are £18 (adults), £13 (OAPs and disabled) and £7 (under-16s). Up to two children under seven go free with a full paying adult.
