Healey long-poled maggot to the bottom of the far shelf and later into the left lakeside margins of peg 11 for carp to almost 6lb plus the occasional quality skimmer.

The runner-up was Chris Szakacs at peg six. He tempted several carp on paste before targeting the lakeside bream with maggot over groundbait. Szakacs weighed in a 72-0-0 mixed bag of carp to almost 6lb and bream to 8lb. Third place fell to Steve Burgess with a 69-12-0 mixed bag of carp and silverfish, which he coaxed from the far shelf and the lakeside margins of peg 12 with maggot.

Ed Wynne finished in fourth place with 65-9-0. He alternated between fishing maggot at five metres and a 6mm banded pellet close to the far bank. Wynne caught more fish than anyone but his baits failed to attract the bigger specimens.

A calm, clear lake and bright sunny conditions took a heavy toll on weights in the Avon Angling midweek Open, fished at the Bridgwater Sedges.

The heaviest weight of the day fell to Adrian Jeffery at peg eight on Brick Lake. Jeffery fished an 8mm banded pellet at various depths beneath a waggler and later a long pole and weighed in 97-1-0 of mostly carp.

He said: "I picked up just the odd fish throughout the six-hour match and played out my last carp in the extra time allowed after hooking it seconds before the all-out call."

Despite catching a near 14lb carp with his first put in at 14 metres off peg four, Avon Angling's Tony Rixon was quick to switch tack when the skimmers moved into the swim.

He changed an 8mm banded pellet for cubes of luncheon meat and finished the day with 30-10-0 of carp plus a winning 36-8-0 of skimmers.

Overall: 1, Adrian Jeffery 97-1-0, peg 8; 2, Paul Elmes (Bristol PSV) 77-1-0, peg 6; 3, Mike West 71-6-0, peg 11; 4, Phil "Fabio" Harding (Avon Angling) 68-5-0, peg 12; 5, Tony Rixon (Avon Angling Mosella) 67-2-0, peg 4; 6, Alan Oram (Dynamite Baits) 43-13-0, peg 7.

Silverfish: 1, Tony Rixon 36-8-0; 2, Alan Oram 32-12-0.

Founder club member, Ted Morgan more than doubled the weight of his nearest challenger in the St Anne's AC match, fished on home waters at St Anne's Park.

He used a 'Topper' float to trot a maggot or caster hookbait straight down the middle of a slow-flowing Bristol Avon and romped home an easy winner with 11-2-0 of bream, skimmers and dace.

Result: 1, Ted Morgan 11-2-0, peg 19; 2, Mel Bertram 5-2-0, peg 4; 3, Dave Hulcoop 4-4-0, peg 9; 4, Andy Wilson 3-12-0, peg 11; 5, Norman Fogg 3-12-0-, peg 11.

Phil 'Fabio' Harding drew the hotly favoured Match 19 and finished 11-1-0 ahead of his nearest challenger in the Avon Angling's Midweek Open, fished on Landsend Fishery's Match Lake at Wedmore.

Harding short-poled paste into his left lakeside margins and the late capture of four double-sized carp totalling 36lb boosted his weight to a winning 146-13-0. Chasing all the way was match organiser Tony Rixon, who caught most of his fish following a late probe into the island margins of Match six with 6mm banded pellet. Rixon weighed in a 25-carp catch totalling 135-12-0.

Winner of the silvers category was the home team's Rod Wootten, who scraped home from Roger Andoniou by 1-4-0 with 18-1-0 of skimmers, roach, chub and tench.

Overall: Phil 'Fabio' Harding (Avon Angling) 146-13-0, Match 19; 2, Tony Rixon (Avon Angling Mosella) 135-12-0, Match 7; 3, Tom Mangnal 125-14-0, Match 18; 4, Mark Poppleton 111-14-0, Match 13; 5, "Ziggy" Zowinski 109-2-0, Match 21: 6, Rod Wootten (Avon Angling) 91-3-0, Match 11.

Silverfish: 1, Rod Wootten 18-1-0, Match 11; 2, Roger Andoniou (Avon Angling) 16-13-0, peg 5.
