Headless body found in grounds of Bristol psychiatric hospital 'not of patient'
A BODY found in the grounds of a psychiatric hospital was not that of a current inpatient, managers have said.
The Evening Post revealed yesterday that the headless body of a man had been discovered at Callington Road Hospital in Brislington on Wednesday. The head was found nearby.

Avon and Somerset Police are not treating the death as suspicious but were yesterday still trying to establish the identity of the man, who is believed to have been aged 25-40.
The Post understands that the body may have been in the grounds of the hospital, next to the Callington Road Nature Reserve, for several months.
Samples from the body will be tested to try and determine who the man was and a post-mortem examination was also being carried out.
Callington Road Hospital provides a range of inpatient mental health services, including a psychiatric intensive care unit for men who have been sectioned, a specialist drug unit for detoxification and psychiatric care for men who cannot be treated or supported appropriately in their own homes.
A spokesman for Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership, which runs the site, said: "The hospital can confirm that there are no current inpatients that are unaccounted for.
"The trust is fully supporting the police while they carry out their investigations."

“As somebody who has been affected in this sad matter, I would like to say that although it is inevitable that people are going to question how this happened etc. It is still very raw to us and considering the circumstances of his death and the length of time he was unfound, you have to appreciate that as "flippinhec" has commented, the body was quite badly decomposed and people who comment on this without truly knowing the facts should be a little more tactful with the way they execute their own inquisition on matters such as these, as families are being affected. There are young family members who will not understand or be told of this who will one day grow up to read these comments and this is NOT a horror story, this is real and will affect us all for a long time. This is not something to be gossiped about.”

I don't think anyone's being flippant. Just look at the headlines, just a bit unusual. whatever the reason for the death i think the evening post should be a bit more careful when choosing their headlines!”

“For anyone who feels it is ok to be flippant about such matters - a body left undisturbed will decompose over a period of time, resluting in limbs & head becoming detached from the torso. Animals such as foxes may also move body parts away fom the site of death. No mystery involved. Condolences to the family.”

“You're completely right I didn't think it through. Was just shocked. Any ideas on how to delete it? I would hate to cause any offence to those already grieving.”
