Head shave in memory of dad
AFTER her father died of cancer, Michelle Doherty was determined to help other people diagnosed with the disease.
The 42-year-old from Keynsham is shaving her head in a bid to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research UK in memory of Dennis Doherty, who died last year aged 67, after a four-year battle with lung cancer.
Miss Doherty said she felt sadness that he was not able to see his grandchildren Bethany, 17, Jazmin, 11, and 18-month-old Denny, who is named after him, grow up.
She said: "Dad was an active, healthy man who loved his golf and had worked hard all his life.

"He was diagnosed with lung cancer and went through chemotherapy and radiotherapy and was nursed by my stepmother at home.
"I feel heartbroken that my dad isn't here to share in the happy times with his grandchildren and to enjoy his retirement, as he was such a worker and did not deserve to become ill and die in such a dreadful way – nobody does."
Miss Doherty decided that she wanted to do something different to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and is saying goodbye to her hair on Saturday.
