Promoter Hatton brings boxing show to Bristol
RICKY HATTON is planning a one-off professional boxing show in Bristol.
The world light welterweight champion will be there in person when Hatton Promotions stage a dinner show at the city centre Marriott Hotel on Saturday, December 20.
And the Mancunian, who recently gained a promoter's licence, wants local hero Danny Butler to top the bill.
Currently preparing for a November 22 showdown with Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas, Hatton took time out from training to take his place at his debut promotion in Birmingham's Tower Ballroom on Thursday night.
He watched Butler demolish Matty Hough inside five rounds to lift the vacant British Masters super middleweight crown and then spoke of his plans to promote in Bristol.
"I'm excited about the prospect of coming to Bristol," revealed Hatton, who will co-promote with long-time friend Jane Couch.
"Boxing has always had a big following in the city and shows there are usually packed out. I'm looking forward to working closely with Jane.
"We go back a long way and I've seen the work she's done in Bristol and they have some great young fighters coming through."
Hatton recalled: "I had my third ever pro fight in Bristol on a Chris Sanigar show and the place has good memories for me.
"Danny Butler is a young guy in a hurry and I'm excited about putting him on my show. He gets great support and, with Jane's help, it should be a cracking night."
Hatton's venture into promotions could spell good news for the Spaniorun Farm stable and Butler in particular.
Couch explained: "Ricky has met some our boxers and has been really taken with them.
"He's arranged for a couple of guys he's signed from America to come and train at our gym and Ricky's dad, Ray, has invited Danny to come and do some work with him in Manchester.
"We're hoping it's an association which will last."
